Take care of medicine and education

When choosing a state representative it is very important to look at what you suppose the situation will turn out to be in your area when the person in question gets elected. Among the most important issues worrying any conscientious citizen are problems of healthcare, security and education. These are the cornerstones of society without which modern life is impossible to imagine. State representatives like Margaret Donnelly believe in all those three important values and want to see them take priority over simple acquisition of profits and thoughtless consumerism.

Belief is medical services available to all layers of population is an old one. It has to be something all of us strive for, the availability of medical assistance for elderly citizens, children, the financially destitute and physically disabled. It is something that tests society for its level of civilization. Because the advanced development of some nation isn’t only manifested through its use of technology but also through the degree of care this society places to medical services for those who cant afford them. Education is right there with medicine, because the level of education determines the future and the present of a given nation. When you chose a politician in your area look carefully into their position on those issues. You will be sorry if you don’t.

Make your children be thankful

girl1More and more people realize that politics isn’t just something you encounter in the morning papers or over the latest news. It is something all of are effected by every day, every time we go to the gas station to fill up the tank, share a cocktail with friends or take our child to a family doctor. And politics isn’t something that happens out of nowhere with people who have nothing to do with us. It’s a complicated process that involves all of us, without any exemptions. From the way we elect our local representatives to the biggest decision for the four upcoming years, the election of the president of the nation, it all depends on how much trouble we went into to analyze the problem.

We don’t just choose our state representatives. With a concrete person responsible for the post we choose the policies that will prevail, the budgets that will be drawn up, the priorities that will be made. So when you go out and campaign for somebody don’t think of immediate short term remedies, think about long term important goals that will be important for our children. Someone who, like Margaret Donnelly, believes in family values and education. Don’t make your decision lightly, the future is in your hands.

Economy, family, weapons…

As you can understand, this article is the last one that will put an end to the topic of political issues. And here we will see what Margaret Donelly thinks about weapon, family and economy.

During the 2004 House session, Margaret supported legislation to stop the state from entering into contracts that outsource state jobs. In order to have a strong economy, Missouri, she believes, must invest in new areas of growth while defending existing jobs from leaving the state. She strongly believes that we can be a leader in the life sciences and the biotech research industry. With the strong public private partnerships in this area, particularly at Missouri universities and colleges, we have the means to build new jobs and attract companies. We must use our state money to support research and attract these industries. There is a move to pass legislation that would define cloning so narrowly that it would make it a crime to perform promising stem cell research. It should be mentioned that , she vigorously opposes such limits on life-saving medical research. Can you imagine if one day a stem cell researcher would need a criminal defense lawyer simply for trying to save or extend our lives! That would be horrible and Margaret knows that better than many.

As for children and families, Margaret Donelly has a lot of experience. I has worked to prevent the safeguards for abused and neglected children from being weakened. She is ready to continue to support efforts to make the foster care system safer and more effective. She will also make it a priority to improve our system for monitoring day care programs to make sure they are safe.

And finally, concealed weapons… The concealed weapons carry law legislation has created problems for state and local police forces and concerns for our communities. The state cannot require the local governments to pay the cost of issuing the permits. No permits are being issued for St. Louis County while they challenge this provision in the law. She will continue to do what she can to close the loopholes that create dangerous conditions at schools and public places and to safeguard limits on the types of people who can carry concealed weapons.

After having read this article and three previous, you understand why I support this person…

Margaret Donelly’s concerns

recessionIn the previous articles we discussed budget and education issues. We will continue this topic and concentrate on other problems. We will also discuss a couple of ways out.

And this paragraph will be about health care. Margaret believes that we must ensure Medicaid is available for the elderly, the disabled, the working poor and children. There were efforts during previous session to cut off Medicaid coverage for working poor parents- those making less than $12,000 a year- and many children. In addition, a major revision to the law was proposed which would have made it harder for the elderly and disabled to receive services such as in-home care, which allows them to remain independent. We successfully stopped those efforts last year, but we must make sure that health care is available to those who need it.

Funding for public health lab services are at dangerous levels. These services are essential for the protection of public health in the event of outbreaks and the threat of disease. In our public health clinics, basic health care services such as mammograms, pap smears and family planning have been eliminated for 30,000 women. Money must be found to bring these services back to an acceptable level. What is more, among other solutions are the new prescription drug program through Medicare has gaps in coverage for middle-income adults. She is certain about the fact that we need to improve our state prescription drug program in order to fill in those gaps.

Another important issue - seniors. In 2002 government passed major nursing home reform that protects our vulnerable seniors from abuse and neglect. Today people in charge must make certain that the law is vigorously enforced, because seniors who live in nursing homes deserve to be treated with dignity. We did pass property tax relief for older adults this year. Local taxes which are lost will be reimbursed to the local governments and school districts with state tax money.

In our next article we will talk about economy, families and weapons. You will understand why I support this woman and why I have decided to write about her.

Political Issues

A couple of upcoming posts will be devoted to political issues of Margaret Donnelly. As you know I, Vasil Kalinkovich, support her very much and appreciate everything she does. Let us see what Margaret does for Missouri and all the people around.

We will start with budget. Like other states, Missouri is dealing with the ongoing problem of low revenues and high demands on its budget. Things are slowly improving-last year saw increase in revenue for the first time in 3 years. But the fact remains, economically Missouri is coming out of a deep hole from years of little money and big expenses. There are hard choices that need to be made. Many federal programs are under-funded, and in some cases not funded at all and there is no possibility for entry waivers. Missouri must take up the slack to cover essential services and programs throughout the state. Margaret believes that people must ensure that education, health programs and services for families, children and the elderly are supported. She is sure that we must continue to carefully examine all state programs to make sure money is being used as wisely and effectively as possible.

Education is another issue Margaret Donnelly is focused on. Public education is the number one responsibility of state government and has always been a priority for her. The President’s No Child Left Behind Act, was unfortunately not fully funded, leaving states and local districts the responsibility of paying for federal mandates. In the 73rd District, schools were funded almost exclusively by local tax revenue, but did get state funding for special programs for gifted students, transportation and the voluntary desegregation program. All of these have been cut in recent years. As a result, our local districts are finding it difficult to maintain programs and services. She believes, the state of Missouri must keep its promises and properly fund its commitments. In the coming legislative session government will face revisions to basic school funding formula. Any changes must treat US school districts fairly and recognize sacrifices made by the communities to support schools.

About this blog and its author

I will be really short in the introduction. I’m not going to write a lot of things about my personality and interests because this blog is devoted to another person - Margaret Donnelly. A prominent woman with unique knowledge and experience. I am just lucky to have been her loyal constituent while living and working in the US.

I believe, it is necessary to underline again that this blog is an unofficial one and has been created by a former loyal constituent and supporter of Margaret who is living in the country of his origin now. I respect this person and has decided to make people knowledgeable about her.

We will cover many topics here. We will discuss her biography, issues, her running for Attorney General of the state of Missouri, her supporters and other things.
